Incredible piece right here. I posted a note about this very issue last week. The empty space exists because we’ve yet to have a zeitgeist moment that brands like Tracksmith, District Vision, or Bandit have had with running.
In the training world’s defense, the running culture is larger and more communal and tribe-oriented. Still.
I’m surprised at the massive hole that exists for strength and conditioning culture.
I might be off base but I feel like covid might have caused a shift in gym culture. I feel like before 2020 anytime I was in any gym I'd see people talking to each other and it felt more community oriented. People still locked in but there seemed to be a more collegial aspect that is no longer present.
Hi Nick, that's an interesting observation but not one I have seen personally. It's always been pretty individual here in London, but maybe the US is different?
Yeah must be a geo difference. We always used to joke about bromances in the gym, going to lift with your friends, etc. I think quite a few people still enjoy getting to the gym, locking in, and then going about their day once they're done. But I've definitely made friends at the gym in the past and more recently.

Very insightful Sev. As a sports photographer & filmmaker I can related to what you wrote.
